Meditative Movement Practice

Meditative Movement Practice is based on observing breath and bodily sensations, placing the awareness to every part of the body, and integrating this awareness with movement. A practitioner of meditation and improvisational movement, Kiori Kawai’s approach employs observation of conscious and unconscious choices through stillness and movement, using kinesthetic awareness as a conversation to explore connection between self and environment. Her workshops focus on various thematic movement methods, such as “Body Climate”, “Arriving Score”, and “Contact Improvisation”. Workshops often culminate in a site-specific performance.

BODY CLIMATE

Observe bodily sensations and place the awareness to every part of the body. Visually create a weather map of the state of the body. What kind of climate is in your arm? In your toes? In your pelvis? In your head?
We move our bodies reflecting these climates. As we move, how does the climate change in the body?

Arriving Score

When we close our sense of seeing, there are another ways to receive our environment. We will navigate each others to experience our environment for ourselves to "arrive" the new space.
